Born in Spain but racing this year under the Dutch flag, Maya Weug made her start in karting aged seven. Going on to compete in several national championships, she was crowned Vice Champion in the 2015 Spanish Karting Championship before stepping on to the international stage.
Silverware came quickly as Weug triumphed in the 2016 WSK Final Cup in the 60 Mini category. Five years later, she wrote her name into the Prancing Horse’s history books when she won the inaugural FIA Girls on Track – Rising Stars programme and became the first female driver to be inducted into the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy.
Progressing up to single seaters, her debut campaign saw her bring home points in both Italian and German F4, finishing seventh in the Italian series’ Rookies Cup. Participating in the 2023 Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine season, she secured one rookie victory alongside several top 10 finishes.
Racing for Ferrari in the Italian outfit’s legendary red colour scheme, Weug will be tackling the 2024 F1 Academy season as part of the PREMA Racing trio.
